It’s not my fault, I swear

See, the pictures I first took on my camera were fuzzy and terrible, and then I couldn’t find the connecting cable between my camera and the compy, and then I couldn’t figure out for the life of me how to upload pictures into a blog entry (uh… thanks for breaking it down, Stef, aka “computer genius compared to Kristina who is essentially hopeless”). So you see, I couldn’t post until now…

So currently I have a few WIPs going on, and one of my favourites is the “Totally Autumn” blanket from the Fall 2007 issue of knitty. I love the undulating curves of the design, the columns of knits and purls that flow effortlessly into one another to form the center and edges of the leaves.

I think it would indeed look very nice in a subtly variegated yarn, like the one used in the pattern, but I went with a simple rustic color that will go with anything: Cascade Ecological Wool, color #8063.

I first discovered this fantastic yarn on brooklyntweed’s blog, which he used to knit his beautiful Hemlock Ring blanket (more on that later… geez, I have so many FOs to write about! This one was definitely an adventure). I think it is hilarious that Stef and I are both knitting leafy blanket in the same yarn, and I didn’t even find out until I read her blog entry!

See, that’s what this blog is all about: a way for us to share our knitting escapades, swap ideas and tricks, and last but not least, complain about misbehaving WIPs (more on that later, too). I just think it’s funny we were drawn to the same yarn at the same time without even realizing it. Maybe we’re cosmically bound by the seductive power of wool? Maybe our fiber auras were inexplicably linked even before we met, before we ever picked up our first knitting needles? Does that sentence even make sense?

Um.

Maybe we’re both really cheap and will buy any wool marked for $15 a skein packed with 478 yards of sproingy wooly goodness. Yeah… that’s more like it.

now, if only I could say the same for the hemlock ring.

this is my party face.

Eiffel is almost done, far more so than the picture here shows.

in fact, all I have left to do are weave in ends and graft the arm stitches.

to be honest, as glad as I am to have it done, I’m not too thrilled with it. I seem to have ignored the second “m1, k1″ in the instructions for the sleeves, so they are a bit small (but not too bad). I also wildly misjudged the sleeve length, despite measuring, comparing to another sweater, and frequent trying on, so they’re only 3/4 length.

the hemlock ring blanket, looking rather… unblocked.

I’m on round 22 or so of Jared’s chart.

I hadn’t realized until today how much I knit with my right shoulder. This is either a problem I should fix, or avoid by not ever knitting for 10 hours in one day again.

it was his hat, Mr. Krabs!

he was number one!

much knitting today, much not taking pictures today. maybe pictures tomorrow? I’ve been working on a hemlock ring blanket, which has been surprisingly fun. My goal for the weekend is/was to finish the Eiffel, and I’m getting there, slowly. I have two-three inches left to go of the second sleeve, which I would have liked to get done today, but my hands seem to be done functioning for the day (typing = rather painful).

also, to Kris – I’m really tempted to do fair isle for the hat. I like the idea of mostly white with a variegated pink, like this, only in reverse. I also need to look around for a kid’s hat pattern for some size guidelines.

the best time to wear a striped sweater

is all the time.

My little sister’s 8th birthday is coming up soon, and we agreed that since there was pretty much no way she could convince me to buy her a Webkinz, I will instead knit her a hat.

She even drew a sketch for me, so I would know what she wanted (which I’ll post when I’m not, y’know… at work see below). It’s pretty stripey. Pink-and-white stripey, at that. With what was only ever described to me as “dangly downs.” No, I don’t know what that means.

On the plus side, I actually have a reasonable excuse for endless hours spent perusing Ravelry, looking for ideas.

(edit: I was going to spend this evening attempting to finish Eiffel sleeve 1… but I somehow managed to slice open my finger while trying to eat a banana, so that might not actually happen.)
